ABOUT ME
My Background
My name is Austin Hexter and I play high performance with Fraser Valley Water Polo (FVWP) in Vancouver, British Columbia. Since February 2023, I also play in the Futures Water Polo League (SoCal 18U) for the Channel Islands United Gold Team.
I have just finished eleventh grade at Southridge School, a university prep school.
The 2022/23 Water Polo season has been my most eventful and successful to date. I was lucky to play for 3 competitive teams, plus was named the Captain of the Canadian Youth National Team that place 4th at the Junior Pan Ams in Bauru, Brazil in April 2023.
Other background information from my water polo career is as follows:
In December 2021, my FVWP 15U Team won gold at the National Championships. In May of 2022, my FVWP 17U Team won gold at the Western Canadian Championships and went on to place 4th at the 2022 17U Nationals.
In the spring of 2022, I was one of the only players born in 2006 named to the Canadian Youth National Team for Centralization.
In the summer of 2022, I was invited to train with Channel Islands (Goldcoast) Water Polo in Oxnard, California, and to compete on their 16U Junior Olympics A Team roster. At the JO's, we placed 14th in the Platinum Division.
I have been playing Water Polo since I was 8 years old, and swimming competitively since I was 5. I am a former high performance soccer goalie and rep baseball player, but Water Polo is the game I love and have chosen to pursue at the collegiate level, and beyond.
I play as a left side Attacker and Centre Forward for my 17U, 19U and Men's teams and we participate in the National Championship League (NCL) with Water Polo Canada.
As a player, my strengths are that I am well rounded, both offensively and defensively, with a high game IQ. I am known for my tenacity and strong work ethic. I am coachable and strive to lead by example.
An area where I am working to improve is to take my time in tense moments to place the ball more accurately and consistently when I shoot.
As a student, my academics are strong due to my time management skills and my commitment to excelling in my studies.
I am excited to play water polo at the collegiate level and look forward to striving for success both in and out of the pool.
